Raw Food & Diet

Raw Food keeps you thin and you get to eat lots! Mind you if you do insist on eating kilo’s or pounds of yummy black cherries you WILL put weight on! But they are SOooo good. A healthy RAw diet needs lots of dark leafy greens. I love Kale & Avocado Salad. This is great in winter too as it is really hearty, now you know I originate from the North of England! I went up to 70KG , about 10 1/2 stone, and was too fat for my clothes, YUK! I am now down to a very healthy 62kg, or 9 1/4stone, and have had to take in most of my wardrobe. Slowly does it best.... There’s a very good reason this is promoted and that is: Lose it SLOW to keep it OFF! Simply replace 2 meals a day to start with if you can’t face going the whole hog or try Karens Go RAw for a Day! if you are feeling brave...Go on... I dare you
Raw Food and the hippy image
I am so far from being a hippy, it’s not funny! I am a hairdresser who loves her colour work, creating “Do’s” that glam up her clients. Here... have a look www.hairdressersonthemove.com Front page is Genna, I also help hairdressers set up businesses and am then corporate... I don’t do HIppy. I simply love beautiful food and I love being creative. Raw food encourages beauty and creativity.

Raw Food V Protein!

Raw Food V Protein!

They’re still doing it! Now they’ve changed tack and are saying “ Oh but you don’t get the same quantity of protein if you don’t eat meat”

You have to careful responding to this one because, unless you are a scientist, PHD or the like they ain’t gonna believe you when you say “Protein changes when it is cooked and becomes disarrayed” with a smirk on your face... Okay? The shutters will come down and their eyes will glaze over. I can only use myself as a living example of a healthy raw food specimen. I am a 50 year old, well on the 10th April 2011 I will be, who uses an insulin pump. I have regular blood tests and my iron levels are fantastic.
How do you respond??

Raw Food - where do you get your "PROTEIN"

If I hear “Where do you get your protein?” One more time, I’m gonna SCREAM!!!!!
Now I know that as a raw foodie I’m supposed to be able to stay calm.... and I do, so there! But really!
I reply “ From living foods such as sprouts, nuts, mushrooms, kale, chard, spinach etc etc”
Do you get that too??

Why Raw?

Now I’m a hairdresser so I took this explanation from Karen Knowler, www.therawfoodcoach.com okay?
Basically raw food is still technically “live” food – that is food whose enzymes are still intact and that, if planted, would grow new life. Cooked foods by comparison are not only enzymatically
dead through cooking but also cannot reproduce, and are usually way lower in vitamins, minerals, water, phytochemicals and other important nutrients – and that’s just for starters! We haven’t even started talking hydrogenated fats, disarrayed proteins and a complete lack of oxygen yet. So I’ll save that for another time.

Love the simplicity of her explanation.

Cheers

Causes of Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes is caused or triggered by one or more of the following things:
I understand how hard it is for us to be honest with ourselves and I may seem quite blunt but I have had to be honest and have been blunt with myself also and now know and understand better... Okay, here goes...
Number 1 cause of Type 1 Diabetes is... LACK OF CONTROL IN YOUR LIFE

Number 2 cause of Type 1 Diabetes is... NOT ENOUGH SWEETNESS IN YOUR LIFE

Number 3 cause of Type 1 Diabetes is... DELAYED SHOCK

Numbers 2 & 3 still come back to LACK OF CONTROL IN YOUR LIFE

We all handle stress and control in different ways and millions of us have become Type 1 Diabetics. Diabetes mellitus starts when the islets of langerhans in the pancreas don’t make enough or any of the hormone insulin, or when the insulin they do produce doesn’t work effectively causing the blood glucose/sugar level to be too high. The cells that make the insulin are destroyed and this causes a serious lack of insulin. This is thought to be the result of the body attacking and destroying it’s own cells in the pancreas and is known as an autoimmune reaction.

I know of 3 people whose Type 1 diabetes has started or been triggered by shock. One had been involved in a car accident and whilst the others in the car were instantly shocked and were laying around dazed he was getting everyone sorted/organized and the shock him later when he realized their reality or enormity of what had just happened.
The two others were living in South Africa and had witnessed people being shot before their eyes, later realizing the enormity of what had just happened they became Type 1 diabetics.

I was 17 and was having issues with my mum. I did not feel in control of things. I wanted to be in control of things but she was stronger! Yes... we are both dominant personality types! I am NOT blaming her okay? She is a wonderful person and I love her to bits. It was simply what happened.
I guess I am grateful to live now when we are coming into an age where we are beginning to realize that we are all part of the same thing AND we are ALL perfect, just the way we are. BUT that’s another story.

Please just take a very long moment to look back and see, feel hear what was going on in your life when you were diagnosed. BUT do not despair there is a lot of help available to get you through your life with ease. I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 33 years and have lived a very fulfilled life. Diabetes has only stopped me from working on the QE2. I started work there, not realizing that Maritime Law from centuries ago forbids it! I was fitter and healthier than most of my colleagues. Sadly I was honest and told the ship doctor about my diabetes, just in case I had a hypo on board. I had to leave the ship the next time we landed in Southampton. It was not the end of my life... I still had the experience of working on that great ship! I have dived in the Barrier Reef, done a tandem skydive, moved to Australia, run 2 successful businesses and am now running successful business number 3. I have been married, had the perfect pregnancy and produced a perfect child (yes I’m a tad biased but she is perfect) and you can do it all too!

Cheers
